Söderströmsbron, the metro bridge between Slussen and Gamla stan, is one of the busiest sections of Stockholm's public transport network. To ensure reliable metro traffic into the future, SL carried out an extensive refurbishment of the bridge between 2014 and 2019. The project had a budget of SEK 400 million and included four bridge replacements totalling 172 metres and four floating bridges of 8 to 12 metres each. The fifth, central bridge was repaired and used temporarily while the work, carried out in stages to minimise disruption, was ongoing.
